This scientific illustration presents Aptenodytes albinoides titanicus, colloquially known as the Pale Abyssal Penguin—a blind, featherless, subterranean penguin species encountered by the ill-fated Miskatonic Antarctic Expedition of 1931. Adapted to eternal darkness, its degenerated eyes and ghostly form mark it as one of the strangest organisms ever recorded beneath the ice. Based on H. P. Lovecraft’s novella At the Mountains of Madness.
